I would say three things to a mother who has become discouraged in her role as a mother. The first thing I would say is keep going. Galatians 6 verse 9 says that we shouldn't grow weary in doing good, but that we'll reap if we don't lose heart. So there's a harvest to the mother who doesn't grow weary even though she has wearying work on many days, but she keeps going and if she doesn't lose heart, she's guaranteed it's a promise of the Lord that she'll reap a harvest. The second thing I would say is, Mom, don't say it's not working.
Be content to say it's not working yet. Often in the work of a mother, she does things that seem like they're not working for a period of time until there's a breakthrough. I've seen that many happen many times in my own house. So stop saying the ways of the Lord aren't working, the counsel of Scripture isn't working, be content to say It's not working yet, but to believe God that He's wisest in every category of life, and especially in parenting. The third thing I would say to a mother who's discouraged is that she has an opportunity to transform her future work in faithfulness and consistency today.
In other words, I've observed a lot of Christian families over a long period of time, and I've seen that mothers who stick with it and are consistent and apply biblical principles over a long period of time. Even though the early days when their children are young are so difficult, they are transforming their future work. And The later years of parenting are sweet because she has the hearts of her children. They're hopefully walking with the Lord and life is completely different. And she transformed her future work.
