So how would you explain the attribute of God's omniscience to an eight-year-old child? Well, it's a bit of a challenge, but I think you could do it. First of all, you would explain to a child what it means to know something. What do you know? Do you know that one plus one equals two?
You know some math. Do you know that that big thing with green on its ends everywhere out there is a tree? You know something. But there's a lot of things, Tommy, I'm talking now to an eight year old, that you don't know. Isn't that true?
Tommy says yes. In fact, Tommy, you don't know how much you don't know. Now can you imagine, Tommy, if there was somebody that knew everything? That's what the word omniscience means. It means that God knows everything because the word science there originally meant a kind of knowledge and amni means every so omniscience, Tommy, means all knowledge, every knowledge.
There's nothing that God doesn't know. So He knows your heart, He knows your mind, He knows your will. He can see right through you. The Bible says of Jesus, that Jesus knew what was in their hearts. He could read people in their hearts.
And that means, Tommy, that God knows you. He knows your sin. He knows your desire. He knows what you pray, even when you don't say any words out loud. He knows your mind altogether.
Now, if you're not saved, Tommy, that's kind of scary because God knows who you are. You need to repent, you need to believe the gospel, you need to fly to Jesus as an eight-year-old and say, God be merciful to me a sinner. Because you see Tommy, you can't hide anything from God. Absolutely nothing. He knows everything.
