I think extreme amounts of care need to be taken when it comes to movies, television in general, all the way into social media. Again, the answer is really similar. There's so much evil worked in. There's so much ungodly things worked in. There's so many.

So there is a world view and there is a perspective about sexuality and about you know what's proper much right and I think parents need to be very careful by I think parents need to scrutinize what their children are watching. I think we need to do it before they watch it. The rule of my house is mom and dad, they have to know what it is and most of the time view it to make sure that something isn't going down into your soul that mitigates against the testimony of our Lord. It really is that serious. There's been a generation or two that have gotten their sense of what truth is based upon what's coming out of Hollywood and based upon what's coming through media outlets.

So The problem I think is we don't as Christians sometimes we don't want to be thought of as this old kind of fuddy-duddy fundamentalist You know meanies, right? And by our children or even by other parents or other Christians because it's very accepted to go to certain movies where there's profanity and nudity and so forth. And so when people say, hey, you know what, I'm not sure these things magnify our Lord. As a matter of fact, I know that they don't magnify our Lord. Why are we spending our Lord's time, and certainly why we're allowing our children to be influenced by it.

And so I think as one progresses in holiness and one progresses in their walk with the Lord, one can't help but begin to pull oneself away from some of the Hollywood kind of worldview and kind of the popular trends and hopefully help our children do the same thing. It's an ongoing fight. It is an ongoing battle, but it's a battle that needs to be waged.

What things should parents be aware of before letting their children watch movies or listen to music?

Dr. Carlton McLeod explains in this video that extreme amounts of care need to be used when determining what kinds of media we allow into our home. There are many ungodly things within the movies, music, or books that our children take in.

Parents ought to scrutinize what their children watch. In his house, he and his wife often view a movie before letting their children see it. The problem is that we as Christians want to "fit in" with their unbelieving friends and oftentimes compromise on these matters. We need to take this seriously and realize there is much at stake if we fail to determine what we allow into our home.

Psalm 119:37 (NKJV) - "Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way."

Speaker

Dr. Carlton McLeod is the pastor at Calvary Reformation Church. Dr. McLeod earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Science from Hampton University and a Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He and his wife Donna have been married since 1992 and they have two daughters, Dori and Aryanna, and one son, Jonathan. Dr. McLeod is relentless in his pursuit to compassionately teach with a biblical worldview. After spending his early years in ministry attempting to pull young people out of the kingdom of darkness with all the world’s methods, the Lord led Dr. McLeod back to the Bible to see the critical need for constant, fervent, and Spirit-led biblical family discipleship. The D6Reformation.org was created out of this desire. His other passions in ministry include discipleship, debt-free living, the covenant of marriage, the supremacy of Scripture, servant leadership with accountability, integrity, and obedience to God, family integration, biblical manhood/biblical womanhood, and missions.
