I have to confess that I don't use any social media. I never have. And so I'm dangerous in my opinions. For me, I just don't have time for it and I think that it, I think with our children it's shaping their worldview way, way, way more than they think. And I want my worldview shaped by scripture.

I want, one of the reasons I like reading books of old men that have died and their life has been judged by history, is I know that I can trust them. I can know that I can trust what they're saying. When you get out into the blogosphere, you get out into social media, we don't know these people. We don't know what their life is like. We haven't examined their life.

We haven't done life together and yet we're allowing them to shape our opinions, we're allowing them to shape our values and our worldview and I think that this is incredibly dangerous. And not only that but it's an incredible waste of time. I would rather spend my time doing something meaningful, building personal relationships, spending time in the Word of God, memorizing the scriptures, equipping and discipling other people. And I think these are the things that matter in life.

What should parents be cautious of in regards to social media?

Gary Powers explains in this video that he personally doesn't use any social media. For our children, it is shaping their worldview much more than they believe. He wants their worldview shaped by Scripture. He shares that he enjoys reading books written by individuals who lived years before.

In regards to social influencers, we barely know many of these people and yet, we're allowing them to shape our opinions, values, and worldview. It can be very dangerous or a waste of time if we are not careful. We must see how we are spending our time. There are other things that we can be doing like mentoring others, building relationships, or discipling individuals.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) - "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
