In John 8 12, the second I AM statement that John records for us, Jesus again spoke to them saying, I am the light of the world. And this just screams with deity all over it. Not only did God create light at the very beginning, and He really is light, he's a source of light. As a matter of fact, in Revelation, when we look at the New Jerusalem, it says this, and the city has no need of the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb. I cannot think of a greater statement of deity that Jesus would say, saying, I am the light of the world.

So not only will He one day be its physical light, but currently He is the most clear spiritual light that God has ever given this world. Nobody has presented God clearer than Jesus Christ. Nobody has presented God better and more fuller, if I can say it that way. No, that's grammatically not correct. But Jesus Christ is truly the light of the world.

What does it mean when Christ says that He is the light of the world?

Cary Green explains in this video that when Jesus said that He is the light of the world, it is important to remember that not only did God create light, He is the light, He is the source of light.

When we look at the New Jerusalem that is described in Revelation, the city has no need for the sun or moon because the glory of God has illuminated it and its lamp is the Lamb. There is not a greater statement of deity that can be made. He is the clearest spiritual light that God has ever given the world.

John 8:12 (NKJV) – “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”

Speaker

Cary Green grew up in a loose Catholic home near Lake Tapps, Washington. While attending Western Washington University, he got saved, by the grace of God! Even as a new believer he knew God was calling him to the ministry, so after college he attended The Master’s Seminary in Sun Valley, California. While there, he met his wife, Lois, and a year after graduating, he and his family left for nearly ten years of ministry in East Berlin. During those years they helped to plant a church (Bible Church of Berlin) and establish a Bible school (European Bible Training Center), both of which are still going strong today. The LORD moved the Green family back to the USA in 2009, where Cary again became involved in planting a church–originally called Everett Bible Church, now Cornerstone Bible Church. It is his joy and privilege to pastor this congregation. Cary and Lois have fourteen children.
