Well, yeah, what I'd like to kind of exhort you to do is become, as future leaders of your home, to be a leader, you can't really do that unless you've learned the art of submission. You remember the centurion that came to Jesus and and he wanted Jesus to heal his son, son right? And he says you don't even have to come to my house. You could just speak the word because, and the reason he said that is because I know you're a man under authority. You have authority because you're under authority.
And he understood that he had the authority of God. So Christ was in submission to God therefore he had the authority to send angelic beings or just send the word and being under authority gave you authority and If you're going to have authority and be a leader, you first have to be in the right chain of command. And you need to be under authority, under the authority of God. Your wife needs to see that you're in submission. Your future wife needs to see that you're in submission to God so she can submit to you.
Now, she's called to submit to you, but her conscience has to submit to the living God. And so take this time now to prepare yourself for leadership. I tell all of our young seminary students you can't be a pastor until you've become the best church member. You're not ready to be a pastor and lead a church until you've learned what it means to be in submission to elders and leaders and not to get everything you want. It's important that you subject your conscience, not your conscience, but your desires underneath someone else.
And so I would encourage you to do that principally through the scriptures and submit your conscience to the word of God and then secondly, to your local church. I like what Scott said yesterday about make a one-time decision. I'm going to be a churchman. I'm going to be there. My wife, I married my wife and I don't think she, when we got married she never missed a Sunday her whole life.
Not that that's something to tout in but she said we were going to church if we were sick, if we're not sick and I'm not saying she'd go to church sick but it was like we're going to church. It was just you don't miss church. You relocate your vacation as what church is going to be there. Everything's based upon not missing church, being in submission. I'm what it means to be in submission to leaders and elders of the church.
And it's amazing when you are in submission, that gives you authority. Think about the police officer that pulls you over. He's got a little badge and he may not be stronger than you, he may not be smarter than you, but he can write you a ticket. The only reason he has the power to do that is because he doesn't act on his own authority. He is acting upon authority that's above him.
And so as long as he's in submission to his authority, the chain of command, he has authority to execute his authority over those who are breaking the law. So you may want to be a leader. You should want to be a leader. But it begins with submission. And your kids need to see that.
Your children need to see that. So this is the time to prepare for that now, is learning to be under submission, Under authority. Yeah, I appreciate you saying that. I'm going to try to elaborate on that tonight. In my opening message at the conference, I'm going to talk about how the Lord Jesus Christ knew His Father.
And one of the pivotal aspects is that He submitted to His Father in His incarnation. And I'll just give you a little tip off. Submission is not frailty. Submission is the exercise of spiritual power. And you see that in Jesus Christ, and I'm gonna illustrate that.
Submission is not weakness. Jesus Christ was not weak. Not one shred of weakness existed in his submission to his Father. So submission to God is not weakness. It's an exercise of spiritual power according to the will of God.
People are so confused about submission today. They really are. But God clears it all up. I would like to expand on something that I'd said earlier, actually last night when I was talking about the matter of exercising discipline and doing all that you do with excellence, what God has put in your hands, do it with excellence. Whatever relationship you have with your local church, do it with excellence.
Your job, do it with excellence. Give your whole heart to the thing that God has put in your hand now. We live in a world where people want to follow their passions. And the problem with following your passion is your passions are going to lead you all over the place. And it's...
The people that follow their passions, they end up going from this to that to this to that. And they keep following their passions. When they get married, it's a real disaster, because they're still driven by their passions, not by their covenant. One of the biggest mistakes young men make is they think there's something out there when actually God has given them something to do right now. And Jesus said, he who is faithful in small things is faithful in much and he who is faithful in small things will have light to do the next thing I I don't know how a man can plan out his whole life.
I've never planned out my whole life. I've just done the next thing that really seemed right before God. Those are the things that God put in my hands. And so I don't know, I don't, you know, I don't have a hundred year plan. I have a plan to do what God called me to do in the place that I'm at right now.
I don't know where I'll be in 10 years, but I want to do what I'm supposed to do right now and do it with all my heart. So be content with that. I know that there's some, I could qualify this to death, but it's so dangerous to live in a culture where everybody wants to follow their passion, everybody wants to follow their heart. It's actually one of the most dangerous things you can ever do. Follow God and obey God in the context that He put you in.
And then He'll show you the next step along the way. And you don't really need to worry about the future. Because God has your future already planned out in perfect detail. You're going to be okay. So don't follow your passion.
Do what you do with excellence. And focus on it really hard. I mentioned a book last night that I'd read recently it's called Talent is Overrated and I read that book because a friend of mine who runs a big company was getting ready to go give a speech to his sales team, he does it once a year, he goes to California. I called him, I was talking to him, he's in California, I said, hey, so what are you going to speak on? He said, I'm going to give my passion speech.
I said, so what are you going to say? He said, well, I'm not going to say what I've always said. I've changed my view. I've changed my mind. He said, I'm going to tell these salespeople to focus hard and forget their passion and just do a great job.
Just focus on excellence. And he said, he said all my speeches to my sales people over the years when I gave my passion speech it was follow your passion and you'll never have to work another day in your life. He says I've changed. So I'm going to walk in there and give a completely different speech. And this book that he recommended that I read it right away gives illustration after illustration of men who really didn't follow their passion.
Like Tiger Woods, you know, his dad put a golf club in his hand when he was two and they play golf every day and he got really good at it and he kept wanting to get good at it and you know just story after story of musicians, the difference between the greatest musicians in the world and the ones that are really good, just by statistical studies that this researcher did, The difference is the greatest musicians, violinists, pianists, there's one single thing that sets those guys apart. They practice more. They practice more than the guys that are really good. The greatest just spend more time. The greatest chess players in the world it's not it's not because they're brilliant it's the difference between the greatest top three chess players in the world and everybody else who's really good is that they've just played more chess and they can see the moves they've just done it so often they can see it like they're not brilliant necessarily they've just done it more so in all of what you do do it with all your heart for the glory of God.
And God will take care of You
