We have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellence of the power of God Is not of us and we might be hard-pressed we might be crushed we might be struck down we might We might be forsaken but we won't be destroyed because we carry about in us the body of the dying Jesus, and this is the chief end of man. And this end of man, the glory of God in man, is as I open the conference with saying, this is the greatest treasure of the human soul. And I don't know why anyone would not want that treasure in their soul to buoy them up, to carry them, to help them, to speak words of life to them, to encourage them, to do all the things that they need to do. We talked about the fact that there are two kinds of ends. The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
But we talked about subordinate ends. I just wanna remind you of that. Subordinate ends and goals. Those are the things that happen in the normal loop of life. Eating, drinking, working, sleeping, loving one another.
These are the means to the end. All of those are designed to glorify God. And then ultimate ends. And those ultimate ends really are designed by God. That ultimate end is to glorify God.
Everything is meant to bring glory to God. And this text in 2 Corinthians that I started the conference out speaks about that we are earthen vessels. We are like clay pots. And the language that the apostle uses to describe who we are, we're talking about imperfectly formed pots. We're talking about chipped pots.
We're talking about leaky pots. And these are the kinds of vessels that God uses. They're the only kinds of vessels that are around and God in his mercy takes us as we are and he begins remaking us from within. And it's such a blessing. The whole design of this conference was to try to explain this great doctrine of the chief end of man in some detail.
This is how we have always constructed our conferences. We want to explain one manifestation after another of that great doctrine. And we started out talking really about how the glory of God in man is a treasure. We then talked about what does it look like to glorify God in your childhood? And then we talked about what does it look like to glorify God in your strength in the years of your youth?
And then Kevin brought us into the whole matter of suffering. How do you glorify God in suffering? Then how do you glorify God in your music? Then how to glorify God in your work? Then how to glorify God in your body?
Then how to glorify God in the breakouts, in the nations, in your dying, in your spiritual gifts, in your conscience, in your technology, in your adoption, in your family, and in your church. And so these were the things that we addressed. We said that the church ought to be only governed by God and his word, not the inventions of man. I was talking to one of our speakers at lunch, and he said, we are the church of the uncool. We are.
If you wanna come to our church, don't come because you wanna be cool. We're not doing anything that's cool. We're doing really old things. We're doing things that God has established. We're doing the things that God ordained a long time ago.
We're not reinventing the church in every generation. And so this is the whole matter of the chief end of man. And I'm just so thankful that we've been able to engage this whole thing. Accomplishing this work of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever is so important. I wanted to make it very plain yesterday that the enjoyment of God begins here and now.
It begins with a converted soul, the soul that's seen the beauty of Jesus Christ, the soul that walks around in the world, and they'll never be the same. And they look up and they see the clouds, and they think, he's coming with clouds. And they see the light of dawn and they say, he's the light of the world. And they walk through a door and they think, Jesus Christ is the door. The glory of God has been placed everywhere in the world.
You can't look anywhere in this world without seeing manifestations of heaven and the glory of God. They are foretastes, they are magnets to draw us to heaven. God has given us such a wonderful world, we should be the happiest people in the world. You know, we shouldn't be running around with our heads down but with our heads up looking at the glory of God. It's absolutely everywhere.
It's in the eyes of your brother and sister. It's in the birth of a baby. It's in the raising of a family. It's in the managing of a house. It's in everything.
God's designed the world so He would be glorified in everything. And that's the world that you've been put in. We really ought to be the very happiest people in the world. And so I'm so grateful to have been able to work through this whole doctrine. We have a network of churches, there are over 600 churches in this network.
These are churches that believe that scripture is sufficient. Now these are churches that believe that their families need to be reformed and brought into compliance to the word of God by obeying God, and that their churches need to be transformed by the renewing of those churches according to the patterns of God. That's what these churches believe. They're not perfect churches, I can tell you that right now, including the church that I'm a pastor of as well. But we're headed in that direction to continually examine our practices, to see how we might have gone astray.
But again, to go back to the old paths, to do the things that God has ordained. And these are churches that are focused on preaching the Word of God. They are churches where generations worship God together. It's very powerful. We've been doing this for about 20 years, and I'm telling you, it absolutely changes the next generation.
And it's such a wonderful blessing. Well, I hope that you're able to come and be with us next year. Our conference, Making Disciples. And I'm really excited about this conference. You can look and see the men who will be preaching here.
Many of those same men that preached here are coming back next year. Spread the word, bring your friends, bring families. One of the things I love about this conference is that all these families and kids are here and it's such a beautiful place to bring your family. So I, and we really do wanna reach families in particular. You know, if you sign up for next year's conference on making disciples in the next week, there's a 10% discount and then it goes away after a week.
But I would just love to see you there. Now, I would like for you to stand, and I'm gonna teach you a song. I'm gonna teach you a song. It's a very simple song. And it includes repeating what I say, and then looping back and saying things all together.
We'll do it a few times just so you can get it. All my kids know this song. All the little kids in my church know this song. It's a great song. Simple.
Okay, you ready? What is the chief end of man? Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Amen. How about that?
Every kid needs to know that song.
