Charles Simeon on Holiness
Oct. 29, 2015
Biographies of past saints are one of the most powerful tools at our disposal for teaching us what faithful Christianity looks like. Looking to those who have gone on before as following their example, as far as they followed Christ, is a great motivator for holiness and service. Charles Simeon (1759 – 1836) was an English pastor who lived in an era when Christianity was culturally dominant, but empty of its power and truth. Many ministers of his day showed no evidence of true conversion and no concern for holiness. Charles Simeon was on track to follow the same path until, by God's grace, he was converted and made a new creature in Christ. He spent the rest of his life seeking to be conformed to Christ in all areas of life and pointing others to him as well.
