The Key to Effectively Communicating Scriptural Truths
Apr. 8, 2020
How can pastors or fathers communicate Scriptural truths more effectively to their congregations or families? In this video, Hensworth Jonas explains that it is vitally important that pastors are being fed by the Word. It can be easy to focus on bringing the Word only to their congregation but neglect considering how they themselves might be impacted by Scripture.  Hansworth suggests that preachers need to stay with the text until there is a fire inside of him and a burden to share a message from Scripture with the congregation. You aren't ready to preach if the text hasn't impacted you. When it has, there is an authenticity to your preaching and a passion. It builds credibility.  Scott shares that for him, it is helpful to consider whether he is bringing a sermon or a message to his congregation. It is straightforward to craft and communicate a sermon. It is something else to preach a message that is burning in your soul.  Preachers need time to search for deep insights within the text and take time to really immerse himself in Scripture. It isn’t something that should be taken lightly.   The same idea can also apply to fathers within the home. If fathers are not taking the time to read the Word and spend time in prayer themselves, they will not be equipped to invest and nurture their own children. Are you being intentional about reading and meditating on Scripture?  Exodus 4:10-12 (NKJV) - "Th

Resisting the Worldly View of Love
Oct. 31, 2019
How do we know what "love" truly means? Mike Davenport explains in this video that we are bombarded with modern views of love through books, newspapers, and other media. We must protect what God has said about marriage and what He has declared it to be. If we look to the world in any place for a definition of marriage or love, then we're looking in the wrong place. We are damaging our own marriages. We are also setting up our children for problems and failures if we allow them to take in what the world will inevitably teach them about marriage and love. We are impacted by what we see, listen to, and spend our time doing. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV) - "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Our Pre-Born Neighbors
Oct. 26, 2019
As our culture has embraced the culture of death, how should Christians respond? With such a tragic reality, is it enough to simply pray, or is there more Christians ought to be doing? What is the role of the Church in responding to the killing of babies in abortion mills?

Cherishing The Word
Jun. 18, 2019
As Christians we believe God has spoken; he has spoken in creation bringing the world into existence, he has spoken through his prophets, and he has spoken in his Son. And God is still speaking in his written word. This written word, inspired by the Spirit of God and given to God's people, is the most important tool given to help us fight sin and pursue conformity to Christ. It is our guide, a lamp to our feet, and is worthy of our time and effort to know it and study it. Do you cherish God's word?

How Local Churches Prepare the Next Generation for Missions
Apr. 13, 2018
The church's mission to make disciple's of all nations is an endevour which has already lasted 2000 years and is not yet complete. With this in mind we should see that the Great Commission is a multigenerational undertaking which will continue until the Lord returns. Therefore, churches need to focus not only on doing missions work and sending missionaries, but also raising and preparing the next generation for that missionary work of taking the gospel to the unreached.

Communicate the Majesty of God
Jun. 13, 2017
Paul Thompson explains in this video that preachers should take time to communicate the majesty of God. They must be careful not to focus on the praise of man in their messages. While it is something that would appeal to our flesh, it is not something that pastors and elders are called to do. John 1:14 (NKJV) - "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."

The Importance of Expository Preaching for Strengthening the Church
Jun. 9, 2017
The Importance of Expository Preaching for Strengthening the Church By Scott Brown This pillar holds a unique prominence among the other pillars of the ministry in the sense that if we get this one right, many of the other pillars will function properly. In this article, we will answer two questions: 1. What do we mean by expository preaching? 2. Why are we committed to expository preaching? 1. What do we mean by expository preaching? Essentially we define it as preaching and teaching through books of the Bible, giving weight to the context, the definitions of the words, the flow of thought, the theological issues and the evangelistic implications. Expository preaching will have the following characteristics: 1. Preaching through entire books of the Bible. 2. Using the context of the passage to shape it’s interpretation. 3. Moving line-by-line and principle-by-principle through the logical sequence of a passage. 4. Bringing out the meanings of the words, to the best of our ability, from the original Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic meanings. 5. Using the theological ideas in the text and correlating them to the broader sweep of theology throughout the scriptures. 6. Cultivating a love for hearing the Word of God We appreciate the faithful adherence to these principles that John Calvin’s life illustrates. Throughout Calvin’s preaching ministry, there were fewer than 6 instances where he broke the pattern of working through the context of a book of scripture. He preached completely through entire books. For example, Thessalonians: 46 sermons, Corinthians: 186 sermons, Ephesians: 48 sermons, Job: 159 sermons, Isaiah: 353 sermons. John Piper has a classic chapter in his Book The Legacy of Sovereign Joy, that describes his great passion for revealing the majesty of God through expository preaching (p114-148). On Easter 1538 Calvin was banished from Geneva for his preaching and went to Strasbourg for three years. Conditions changed and the city fathers invited Calvin back to Geneva. So in Sept 1541 he walks into pulpit and picks up at the next verse from where he stopped when banished. He comments that he wanted them to know that his time in Strasbourg was just an interlude in his preaching through the text. Why that kind of preaching? Luther did not do it. Spurgeon did not do it. Why did Calvin mainta

Preaching
Mar. 1, 2016
In this audio message, Scott Brown discusses the topic of preaching. Preaching is a powerful tool that God uses within a church. Pastors are called to faithfully exposit the Word of God -- they aren't called to come up with their own creative lessons and messages. It is the Holy Spirit that convicts the heart, not us. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) - "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

A Group of Unusual Churches
Jun. 18, 2015
Scott Brown explains in this video that there have been an increase of churches that feature expository preaching and are age integrated. In families who attend these churches, mothers take care of their children at home. They homeschool their children. Many of these things are because these individuals believe in the sufficiency of Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) - "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Positive Elements in Family-Integrated Churches
Oct. 31, 2014
Kevin Swanson explains in this short audio clip that one benefit of family-integrated churches is that it creates a transparency amongst the congregation and within the family. Everyone is in the same room, worshipping God and learning from His Word. Children see their parents in the church singing hymns, fellowshipping with other believers, and studying Scripture. Ephesians 4:14-16 (NKJV) - "that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love."
