The Major Roles of Man as Priest in His Home
Jan. 17, 2019
In what ways is a man the priest of his home and what priestly roles does he fulfill on behalf of his family? A man engages in his priestly work through intercessory prayer for his family, directing his family in worship, mediating divine blessings, instructing his family in scripture, and applying scripture as a judge.

Job: The Biblical Portrait of the Man who is a Priest in His Home
May. 21, 2021
Through the example of Job we will see what God requires of men to be godly leaders of and priests in their homes.  The great thing about Job's example is that we see not only what he did with his hands, but also how he did it from the heart.

What Do We Learn About Worship from the Old Testament
Oct. 31, 2013
Often Christians can mistakenly think that the church is only guided in its worship by the New Testament. However, God has given all of his Word for our instruction and direction. If we believe that God has given all of his Word as the only sufficient and infallible guide for life and worship then we must turn to the pages of the Old Testament. We need to look at the Old Testament's teaching on worship, through the lens of the New Covenant and the revelation of Christ, and see what God requires of his people when they gather to worship him.

Repentance Involves a "Change of Mind"
Sep. 28, 2017
What is repentance and what are the implications of that definition? Sam Waldron explains in this video that we must go back to the biblical words used to describe repentance to understand what it is. Repentance is described in Scripture as: "turn," "regret," and most importantly, "a change of mind." A proper understanding of repentance is crucial.  "Change of mind" is not the mere changing of one's mind like one would do when deciding what to eat or what to do. This "changing of mind" is not superficial or trivial. Rather, it is a renewing of mind at a fundamental level. This is a radical change of mind about important topics like God, man, sin, and Christ. It is more than a change of mind, but it involves a change of behavior.  Revelations 3:19 (NKJV) – “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.”

What is the Opposite of Glory?
Feb. 10, 2022
Shame is the opposite of glory. Shame is the exposure of one's actual, internal defilement. When we are shamed, someone exposes our sinfulness and defiled character. Glory is the outward manifestation of inward excellence. God's glory is when His excellence is revealed. God's glory is the outward manifestation of His inward excellence.

What Is the Glory of God?
Jun. 27, 2023
What is the proper definition of the glory of God as revealed in Scripture? In this video, Sam Waldron discusses the definition of the glory of God based on Scripture. He highlights the importance of understanding the glory of God as the outward manifestation of His inward excellence. This definition emphasizes that God's glory is revealed through visible manifestations and serves as a revelation of His character. Waldron draws a parallel to how a woman can be seen as the glory of a man, representing an outward manifestation of his inward excellence. The glory of God, therefore, pertains to the visible and revealed expression of His excellence. The concept of the glory of God extends in various directions within Scripture. The Son of God is described as the radiance of the glory of the Father, further emphasizing the idea of an outward manifestation. Waldron likens the glory of God to the rays of the sun, with the sun itself representing God and its rays representing the visible and revealed manifestation of His glory. Thus, when discussing the glory of God, it encompasses that which is manifest, clear, seen, visible, and revealed. Hebrews 1:3 (NKJV) beautifully captures the radiance of God's glory in the person of Jesus Christ: "who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high."

The Biblical Foundation for Theological Education
Oct. 27, 2018
The Biblical Foundation for Theological Education and, therefore, for what we do at Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary is found in 2 Timothy 2:1-2. Notice four things. l. First, notice the spiritual commodity which they specify.  You will notice that the Apostle calls Timothy to be strong in “the grace” that is in Christ Jesus. The grace mentioned refers to the “doctrines of grace.”   ll. Second, the spiritual genealogy which they envision.  Four generations of truth are mentioned. 1. From Me in the presence of many witnesses 2. The things which you have heard 3. Entrust these to faithful men 4. Who will be able to teach others also So the spiritual genealogy runs like this: Paul, Timothy, Faithful Men and Others Also Paul faces his imminent martyrdom for the sake of Christ. Cf. 2 Timothy 4:1-8. One of the things most important to the Apostle Paul as he writes Timothy shortly before his death and with his death clearly on his mind is the preservation and communication of the truths of the gospel of grace not simply or generally to all the church, but to faithful church leaders who will continue the genealogy of truth.   lll. Third, the spiritual specialty which they require. When these verses speak of entrusting something to faithful men who will be able to teach others also, they clearly call for teaching. But the teaching in view here is not the ordinary teaching required in the Great Commission. Here, it is to be given to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. lV. Fourth, the spiritual entity which they assume. Paul does not command Timothy to start the Ephesus Bible Seminary. Paul does not revise what he said in 1 Timothy 3:15 about “the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.”  Thus, theological education ought by right to take place under the authority of the churches of Christ and not as an independent operation.

The Importance of Grace in Family Life
Aug. 2, 2019
How important is grace within the home? Sam Waldron explains in this video that grace must be something that is embraced within the family. It should be something that is prioritized within the home. We should be ready to forgive many sins.. A husband, wife, and children each need to forgive each other when they are wronged just as they were forgiven. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) - "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it isthe gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

God's Sovereign Mercy in His Response to Elijah's Death Wish
May. 21, 2022
We will be looking at what is in one sense the low point of Elijah's life, but seeing the character of God revealed exactly in this low point. We will be considering the reality of, roots of, remedies for, and rejection of Elijah's Death Wish; and in all of this learning the sovereign mercy and compassion of our great God.

The Scriptural Warrant for the Man as Priest in His Home
Jan. 17, 2019
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word" - Ephesians 5:25-26 NKJV The Apostle Paul presents Christ as the preeminent example of how husbands are to love and care for their wives. But how exactly does the work of Christ parallel the role of a husband? One way is in Christ's work as the church's high priest and the husband's role as priest in his home; loving and caring for his wife and his family, being patient and compassionate, interceding for them, and pleading with them to believe the promises of God.

COVID-19 - When to Disobey the Government
May. 4, 2020
This webinar will focus on various perspectives on when to disobey government orders that restrict the church. The panelists I have invited maintain nuanced and even different answers. This will be a time for men to present their cases, and to engage in some gracious debate on the matter. While the church exists under totalitarian regimes quite often, Americans are stunned at what has happened. Pastors and congregations asking questions they have never had to ask before. How are they supposed to honor and obey the king and honor and obey the Lord at the same time in this particular situation in America? Is it possible? If so how is it possible? If not what should the church do?

Distinctions Between True and False Repentance
Jan. 29, 2018
What is the distinction between worldly and true repentance? Sam Waldron explains in this video that one of the differences between true and false repentance is that those who truly repent sorrow for the sin itself while those who falsely repent only display sorrow for the consequences that stem from sin.  While true Christians are certainly sorrowful for the consequences of their sin, that sorrow serves a motivation for genuine repentance. If someone’s sorrow for sin never goes beyond a simple fear of its consequences and does not include a hatred of sin itself, that repentance is not genuine. 2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV) – “ For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.”
