Child Discipline by Jason Dohm. How do we address our children's behavior as a husband and wife? What is discipline and why is it necessary? What does the Bible say about a child's heart and how do we apply it?

Trent Moody explains in this video that if a child starts to question their gender and discusses it with you, you have an incredible opportunity to speak into the life of that child. Take them to Scripture and help them to see what God has said. His ways are perfect and He made them male and female. Help them to remember that the heart is desperately wicked -- what they feel doesn't dictate what truth is. Point them to the Word of God. Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) - "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?"

Jeff Pollard explains in this video that mothers have among the highest callings in human experience. They are vital. Adam was incomplete without Eve. He could not do what commanded Him to do without her. Mothers add much to the family. They are able to significantly influence their children -- for better or for worse. Proverbs 31:28-29 (NKJV) - "Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.'

Phil George explains in this video that the role of motherhood has been devalued today. Mothers are encouraged to put their children into preschool and leave the raising of their children to someone else. The calling of motherhood is a high one. The church must be better at encouraging mothers to raise disciples within the home. Even the most mundane task can be done for the glory of God. Mothers should be encouraged by this. Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) - "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."

David Fry explains in this video that it can be easy for a mother to be discouraged. It can be helpful to remember the mercies of God and be glad for God's mercy in allowing them to be within a Christian home. If she has difficulty in dealing with her husband, she can pray for him and seek out older women as mentors. Romans 15:13 (NKJV) - "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

John Snyder explains in this video why it is important for parents have biblical expectations for their children. Hudson Taylor, for instance, had godly parents who raised him and everything that he did was impacted by his godly upbringing. Parents are called to be faithful to raise their children in the way that God commands. Even if your children don't ultimately walk with the Lord after they leave the home, you are still commanded to train them according to Scripture. Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) - "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Rob Tart explains in this video that one of the most important things that a parent should work towards is to win the heart of their child. If they do not have the heart of their child, it is very difficult to maintain a harmonious relationship with a child and to pursue shared goals together. To win the heart of a child, parents need to listen, care for their children, and affirm them when applicable. Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV) - "A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones."

Jason Dohm provides three encouraging reminders for discouraged mothers to keep in mind. One of those reminders is for mothers to keep going as Galatians 6:9 exhorts us to do. Don't give up. Even if life as a mother is difficult or trying, their work is important and needed. Motherhood is a noble calling. Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) - "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

Malamulo Chindongo explains in this video that if a child is questioning the faith of his or her parents, the child should realize that God has given you a gift. He has given you parents that care and love for you. Second, the child needs to consider what Christ has done. If you are questioning the faith of your parents, then what is the alternative? Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) - "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Dr. Carlton McLeod explains in this video that fathers are to orient life around God in their household and ensure that children are exposed to the things of God within the home and at church. They are to be personally involved in teaching, praying, and talking about God with their children. It involves discipleship and walking hand-in-hand with your children. It involves sharing your passion and love for God with your children. It is a weighty responsibility but a glorious one. Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV) - "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."

Clarence Simmons explains in this video that in regards to parenting, as our children get older, parents can sometimes fail to communicate and seek to know how their children are doing and what they are thinking. We have to be intentional about caring for our children in this way. Parenting God's way is hard work -- yet, we cannot be idle in this area. Phil George explains in this video that fathers should not provoke their children to anger. One way parents can avoid provoking their children to anger is to bring them up according to what Scripture dictates instead of arbitrarily parenting them, perhaps with how they see fit or what traditionally has occurred. Doing so will exasperate them. Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV) - "And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord."
